I found a solution online: if the touchscreen does not start, press and hold the volume power button (left of the screen) for 10 seconds and it will reboot the infotainment system. ( keep holding until you can see it rebooting) I did it while driving this morning and worked like a charm, so I do not believe you have to be in park for it to work.
