This version of the engine was unique to the X1/9 having a bore of 86 mm (3.4 in) and this was what allowed the capacity to be increased from the 1.1 litres used in the Fiat 128 to the 1,290 cc of the X1/9. For the X1/9 this engine was fitted with an aluminium oil sump, radiator expansion tank, and breathed through a Weber twin-choke 32 DMTR.
